A quiet wild swimming spot in Wales.
If you’re on the hunt for a peaceful, secret wild swimming spot that’s properly off the beaten track but still within easy reach of civilisation, let us point you towards The Wash Pool, a beautifully clear plunge pool in the River Irfon, around 45 minutes from Coety Bach.
It’s a real hidden gem. Quiet, cold, and perfect for a wild river dip with no fuss.
Where to Find It
You’ll find The Wash Pool tucked away near Llanfihangel Rhydithon, just outside the little village of Llangammarch Wells. There’s a layby for parking right near the access point.
From there it’s a short walk through peaceful woodland before you arrive at the pool itself, fed by a gentle stream and surrounded by trees and birdsong. It’s not signposted, and that’s part of its charm. Just follow the sound of running water.
A Proper Wild Swim in Mid Wales
The water’s clear and bracing, the setting is calm, and there’s usually not a soul about. This isn’t one of those Insta-famous spots that’s packed out by lunchtime. It’s the kind of place you can float, breathe, and feel like the only person in the world for a while.
Bring a towel, a flask, and something easy to slip on your feet. You’ll want to take your time.
The Best Bit? Coming Back to Coety Bach
After a cold-water dip and a bit of a wander, there’s nothing better than heading back to Coety Bach for a hot shower and a soak in the wood-fired hot tub, looking out across the Ithon Valley. It’s the perfect contrast. Wild, cold river one minute. Warm bubbles and birdsong the next.
Best of all, no soggy crowds or noisy distractions. Just proper peace and a bit of Welsh magic.
