World Mental Health Day

Breathing space, birdsong and being truly present at Coety Bach

Every year on 10 October, World Mental Health Day invites us to pause and prioritise our wellbeing. This year’s global theme highlights the need for access to mental health support in difficult times, yet it’s also a gentle reminder to care for our everyday minds too. Small, consistent moments of rest can make a real difference.

At Coety Bach we see this up close. Couples arrive to slow down and truly listen to each other again. Solo guests bring a book and the brave plan to switch their phone off. Carers come for a breather while someone else holds the fort. We’ve welcomed proposals, honeymoons and birthdays. All beautiful reminders that joy matters to mental health. So does quiet. Both live here.

Why time in nature helps

There’s solid evidence that being in nature supports mental wellbeing. Feeling connected to nature is linked with more positive emotions and lower anxiety, and even short breaks surrounded by greenery can help reduce stress. Studies show that just two hours a week spent in nature can make a noticeable difference to overall wellbeing.

For couples who want to reconnect

Good relationships are protective for mental health. Put phones away, cook together, watch dusk roll in, ask curious questions and really listen to the answers. Take a stargazing moment and share one hope for the months ahead. Many couples tell us that time away from the noise of life at Coety Bach helped them find their rhythm again, sometimes even leading to a proposal under the stars.

For solo guests

Time alone can be powerful. Bring a book, pick a favourite chair and let your thoughts settle. Plan something small and kind for yourself each day, such as a nourishing meal, a fresh-air moment or a simple pleasure. Before bed, try a short reflection: What felt heavy? What helped? What will I carry forward?

For carers who need a breather

This one’s close to my heart. I cared for my Mum for five years, so I know first-hand how emotionally and physically draining it can be. Sometimes you don’t realise just how much you need a break until you finally stop. That experience has given me a real understanding of what it means to need time out, proper guilt-free rest.
If that’s you, please know you’re not alone. Coety Bach is a place to catch your breath, sleep, read, take a long bath and do absolutely nothing without having to explain yourself. Even a short break can refill your tank and remind you that you still matter too.

Nature’s therapy on your doorstep

One of the best ways to ease stress is to simply get outdoors. Coety Bach is surrounded by peaceful countryside with plenty of walks right from the door. Wander through woodland trails, follow streams that lead to hidden waterfalls or head towards the beautiful Elan Valley, a stunning area of reservoirs, hills and open skies just a short drive away. The sound of water and the rhythm of walking have a way of untangling busy thoughts and helping everything slow down again.

A gentle digital detox

You don’t have to go completely off-grid to feel better. Set your phone to airplane mode for parts of the day and give yourself permission to be truly present. Short, intentional breaks from screens have been shown to lift mood and ease anxiety for many people.

Ready to make space for your mind

Whether you come alone to breathe, arrive hand-in-hand to talk without distractions, or take a well-deserved break from caring for others, Coety Bach is set up for slow mornings, simple pleasures and star-bright nights. When you’re ready, we’d love to welcome you.
